EP REVIEW:  .99¢ BY DALLY AUSTON

Dally Auston, Chicago born and bred rap artist, recently dropped a highly-anticipated new project as he takes us on his journey. Each track having a clear, individual meaning and completely different sound. Once pressing play, we were met with a delightful, nostalgic declaration of his mission through his music with soft Congo drums behind his lyrics in, “Before Roses.” In the eeriness of “Deja Vu,” we continue a foggy side of Dally questioning himself but having confident answers.

After that walk home we reach the front porch steps of ”My Life.” A track that sounds like the curious realizations of his external and inner self taking a minute to sit down with one another and smoke one. We step into the car for a slow-motion blunt cruise as, “In My Head,” plays. Sultry guitar notes harmonizing the western showdown sounds of his inner vs external thoughts flowing over the beat. Also, the most played of his EP. Going into “Parrish,” a tribute to his support systems while acknowledging how far one has come, we start to realize the difference in producers who worked on the project. This specific track feeling like a look up to a blue sky resulting in a musical equivalent of hugging oneself.

Once we wipe the sun out of our eyes we are met with day dream sounds in “Chest.” The shortest track of the project, gives an interlude effect to the more upbeat tempo we hear in “Paper.” Paper also being a fan favorite has a more present, future hue outlook within his raps. Definite chill, affirmation-in-the-morning vibes coming off of the song. Concluding Dally’s 99¢ EP is his track,”Picture Perfect.” An almost unexpected, eluding love song feeling like we made it to the end of a California evening on the roof, inner thoughts settled for the moment, gazing hopeful at the moon.
